Hello everyone! I hope this letter finds each of you and your pets happy and healthy.
This is our first newsletter so I would like to give you a little background in the beginning of Giant Paw Rescue, Inc... We were incorporated on my birthday this past year, June 27th and two days later I had opened our bank account and made our first deposit. Things have been going strong since that day.
We rescued our first dogs during our first week from a shelter outside of Austin. They were three Great Pyrenees litter mates who had never been apart. I am very happy to report that one sister was quickly adopted and named Princess, appropriately. She spends her weekends camping with her new Mom and Dad and sleeps on her very own sofa! Jack and Sweetpea, the other two dogs, went to live together with a wonderful family outside of Austin. I cried when they told me that they would take both dogs so one did not have to live without the other. What a wonderful blessing.
In July, Harry, our male Saint Bernard came to live with us. He was in very bad shape and needed lots of TLC. He has put on 30 pounds since coming to live with us and is being treated for his heartworms. To read more about Harry check out our Home Page on the website or visit Petfinder.com.
September 30th, we held out First Annual Giant Paw Rescue Dog Walk in the Lakeway City Park. It was a huge success with 45 dogs participating. All types of dogs were represented, from the toy breeds to a Clancy the Irish Wolf Hound! While our guest enjoyed ice cream and hot dogs at the finish line, Elaine Acker, with Pets America, gave a brief presentation on animal first aide and disaster planning workshops. Our community donated many door prizes that were also given away after the walk. The reviews were wonderful and the dogs and their owners have asked us to hold another one this spring! We’ll keep you informed.
The holidays are coming up soon and many dogs will be brought into rescues and shelters during this time. If you can not adopt a dog, please consider being a foster parent or simply donating to the foundation to help those we currently have in need. Volunteers are always needed as well to help with Meet and Greets, and other foundation events, and jobs.
Take care and have a wonderful holiday season. Please remember the animals in our area shelters and rescues during this time. Food, blankets, beds, chew toys, etc… are always needed and welcomed.
Happy Holidays,
Kim
