How to Adopt a Giant Breed From Giant Paw Rescue

1) Download an application. Return it to us via e-mail, postal mail, or at one of our Meet and Greets. Your application will be reviewed.

2) You will be interviewed at the next scheduled Meet and Greet Event.

3) Upon approval of your application, and reference verification, a home visit is done at your home by a Giant Paw Rescue volunteer.

4) A match between a dog and you is mutually discussed and agreed upon. The adoption contract is signed and adoption fees are paid by the adopter, and you and your new best friend begin your new lives together.

The Fine Print: The Adoption Process for Giant Breeds

We only adopt to homes in the Austin metro area. Since we require a home visit and follow up visits/calls, we cannot adopt to homes out of our local area.

Our application/questionnaire may appear to be quite long and detailed to someone who is not familiar with adopting a pet from a rescue organization. When our organization rescues a dog, we feel that it is our responsibility to both the dog and the potential adopter to make the best possible match/placement. With this in mind, we do everything that we can to gather information to make an adoption work from the outset.

There are times when more than one person wants the same dog. In these cases ALL OTHER THINGS BEING EQUAL, we generally work on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Completing an application does not insure approval for dog adoption from our organization. Giant Paw Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of a dog to anyone who they believe cannot/will not provide an appropriate environment for the breeds that we rescue.

Giant Paw Rescue charges an adoption fee of $300 per dog. We are a non-profit organization and all of the fees that are taken in go directly to the care of our dogs. Again, we are entirely staffed by volunteers, therefore, there are no paid organization members. Many dogs that are taken into rescue are in need of medical intervention in addition to the regular series of shots and spay/neuter. All of our dogs are seen by a veterinarian, are up to date on their shots, have been checked for heartworms, have been either treated or on preventative, and have been spayed or neutered prior to adoption. When other medical intervention is deemed necessary, dogs are treated accordingly by a veterinarian. Examples may include heartworm treatment, treatment for skin conditions, treatment for ear and eye infections, cardio diagnostics, orthopedic evaluations and subsequent surgeries, etc. Therefore, one can see, depending on the dog and its condition, medical costs can often be excessive. Many times, adoption fees alone do not cover the costs. We rely on adoption fees and donations to pay these expenses.
